The Essential Herbal is a hard-copy herb
magazine that you can prop up on the
kitchen counter while trying recipes, take along to the the natural food store,
herb shop, or garden center to help you shop for the best stuff, or...okay, yes, you can even leave it in the privy. We
originally called it an "herbal newsletter", but since
early 2004 when we began running 32 pages, it became an "herbal magazine".
There are 6 issues per year, and we're now in the sixth year in print!
You'll notice that
there is
a real personality to this magazine. No matter who or
what is in a particular issue, it always feels like a big fat, juicy
letter from an old friend - filled with information, recipes, lore, and
crafting ideas and instructions for using herbs and making them a
part of your life everyday. We know that there is a need for
clear instructions for the new herbie - and that the herb recipes
and herb craft ideas need to be interesting to the old-hands, too. We aren't slick or glossy - but
we ARE fun and folksy. There is something for everyone in
every single issue. A new way to use herbs, a new way to taste
herbs, or a new way to use them in family first aid.
With
the start of 2008, we begin our 7th year of continuous publication. We have all of our tables of contents displayed,
along with
the covers. Just click on the button of the issue you'd like
to see. Just like the different times of the year, and the
way life changes, so does The Essential Herbal magazine...and it all depends on what is
submitted for that particular issue. Always a fun read, and every
issue is filled with the contributions of herbalists from all over the country. We
have been blessed with writings by herb people like Michele
Brown, Susanna
Reppert, Sue-Ryn Burns,
Maureen Rogers, Sarah Liberta, Geri
Burgert, Susan Evans, Maggie
Howe, Maryanne Schwartz, Christie
Sarles, Gail Faith Edwards, Samantha
Corwin, Karen Hegre, Karen Creel, Mary Ellen
Wilcox, Karen
Mallinger, Alicia Grosso and Sarah Campbell
- to name just a few. Each issue also includes a "List Article", with many
answers to a question posed to our Yahoo group members and subscribers.
Be sure to visit us often to read new
sample issue at the link above, and see new products. We're adding all the time.
Lately we gotten some great candles and The latest book - Under the Sun is
really amazing. We also have added
ingredients to make your own
incense... gum tragacanth,
sandalwood, dragon's blood, benzoin, and others. So if you've checked out
the "Making Your Own Incense" or the Incense Making Kit and need
supplies, we've got 'em! They are also useful for making herbal
beads. All the books that we've put together - Crafting
the Bath, Making and Using Herbal Vinegar, Blending Herbal Teas, Perfect
Potpourri and Scented Crafts, and Fairy Home Companion are also available. Wild Foods for Every Table has been a big hit
with tons of recipes to use with those weeds outside the door.
The stated
PURPOSE of The Essential Herbal
is to provide a forum for all of us out there working alone with herbs to be
in touch and share what we know. Some tiny little herb shop in the hidden
hills might harbor some powerful knowledge...and how are we to know? Its
an opportunity to put that herb shop on the map. It is a chance for the home herbalist to be published right
alongside someone everyone has heard of. Cool, huh? So join in the
fun. Subscribe now to The Essential Herbal
herb magazine.
We've got some great new products -
CobraHead gardening tool, Jewelweed products, lavender wands, spice clay mix, balsam sachets, incense - and more.
